Are silver awards really silver?
Not everyone looking for a silver trophy wants to use actual silver. In many cases, people are looking for a silver colour finish, rather than the metal itself.
A big reason that many people avoid using silver itself is because it tarnishes so easily. Silver requires a lot of cleaning and upkeep as well as being more expensive, whereas a metal like nickel gives you that same silvery finish but is more affordable and doesn’t tarnish so quickly.
It’s also very rare for a trophy to be created in solid silver. In fact almost all metal trophies use a base of aluminium, which is then nickel plated to get the desired finish.
Another alternative is to use pewter, which has a similar finish to silver and to nickel plate, and is often lighter and more malleable than most metals.

You may not realise that you can get a sustainable silver award, but this is really only possible if you’re choosing a nickel plated award.
That’s because the main body of your trophy will be created in aluminium, which can be sustainable. In fact at EFX we use 79% recycled aluminium for our trophies, and we use sustainable manufacturing processes and packaging too.
